Hi Craig,

I=E2=80=99m in Ohio, so I was already in bed before I saw your response thi=
s morning. Hopefully it is not too late to follow your recommendations.

Thank you again for the clarification. This makes sense. How do I cancel =
the order? I also ordered a Matt Millman's 8755 Arduino Shield and Adapter=
at the same time on Tindie, which I do not want to cancel. Would that be =
through a different person? I play around with Arduinos. Should I wait fo=
r your response before placing a new order? I would like to order the litt=
le MCS-85+ as you suggest. And a pre-programed 8755 to work with it. Whic=
h 8755 would that be?

Thank you for the trouble-shooting info for the two used SDK-85s I have. I=
will give unseating and reseating the chips a try. They have been in stor=
age for over 40 plus years. I too waited until I retired to do some of the=
things I wanted to so with microprocessors.

Thank you for the info on the Needham. Some where in my collection of elec=
tronics, I have an old Needham. I might even have an older PC that works w=
ith a parallel port. I have a newer XGceu Pro Ti866II eprom programmer, bu=
t apparently it will not work with a 8755. Maybe because the 8755 needs a =
higher voltage. I use it to update the firmware on some older programmable=
logic controllers. And I will see about ordering some 8755s on eBay. =20

Thank you and I will wait to hear back from you before placing a new order.

Tom

Hi Tom,

The EPROM for my SDK is not exactly the same code.=C2=A0 From a user=E2=80=
=99s perspective it acts the same and all the main subroutine entry points =
are at the same addresses, but it will not directly run in a real SDK-85.=
=C2=A0 There are little things like the serial bits being inverted and need=
ing to change the configuration of the display.=C2=A0 So unfortunately thes=
e 8755s will only run in the SDK-85+ board.=C2=A0 You may want to cancel th=
at off the order since you can download the code and program yours own when=
you get the full SDK-85+ with the display going. =C2=A0Or you may want to =
just start with the little MCS-85+ that just has the 8085, 8156, 8755, and =
8185 since it is a simpler build.

As for your two SDKs and getting them going again=E2=80=A6..
I presume you have tried removing and reinserting all the chips from their =
sockets. If these worked when put away decades ago, reseating the chips wil=
l solve 90% of oxide problems.=C2=A0 I also presume that you have checked v=
oltages and replaced any suspect capacitors. =C2=A0=C2=A0A problem with the=
SDK is that other than the initial sign on, if the thing goes on the fritz=
you never know what the display is trying to say since it is depending on =
the keypad entry.=C2=A0 Over the years I have had to take the keycaps off m=
y SDKs and spray them with deox because they got to where I needed to slam =
them pretty hard to get a keystroke registered.=C2=A0 But I don=E2=80=99t t=
hink that would cause either of your problems you are seeing. Even without =
a keystroke, it should say 8085 when first powered up.

Some SDK-85 diagnostic software would be handy that ran the display and key=
pad through some known conditions and then allowed for a terminal to furthe=
r probe the SDK.=C2=A0 If you can=E2=80=99t get yours going after a reasona=
ble effort, we may look into that.=C2=A0 I think there are others with dead=
SDK-85s that could use such a tool.

In the mean time, we can cancel and revisit this existing order.=C2=A0 If y=
ou just want a blank 8755, there are some $5 ones on ebay.

Also, on ebay I noticed there was a very low cost needham EMP20 programmer =
that can program 8755s (with the right personality card (which are readily =
available)).=C2=A0 I think it was in the $50 range which is a steal if it h=
appens to work.

craig

Hi Tom,

I see you ordered some boards from tindie, thanks but I had a question.=C2=
=A0 I noticed that you just ordered the SDK single board computer and not t=
he keypad / display board.=C2=A0 The board will operate by itself as a sing=

rdered, that monitor will be expecting the keypad/display board.=C2=A0 If y=
