Hi Craig

I don't think that Ross had any interest in Multibus. He was certainly
interested when I showed him an Intellec 8 that I had collected along with
several Series II machines from a donor who was about to move to a
different region of the UK - and who had decided that his MDS systems were
not going to the new house.

Ross was diagnosed with bone cancer (myeloma, I think). He volunteered to
take part in a clinical trial of a novel treatment. However, delays in
getting the research started meant that he missed the opportunity for a
conventional treatment to start when his cancer was discovered. His career
included being director of IT for a TV company, which allowed him to
collect vintage computers and cars in retirement. He did a couple of
YouTube videos.

He and I discussed the ways in which a couple of Altair 8800b and an IMSAI
8080 could be demonstrated at the museum. This is where I met Kieran, who
lives closer to the museum - as someone who could manage the machines Ross
had restored and 'bring them to life' as part of the education aims of the
museum. The ideas weren't realised - the museum staff dealing with the
public are more interested in the 'gaming' side of home computers - which
plays well with many visitors.

I had various contacts with staff of the Living Computers: Museum and Labs.
While I was on holiday one of their engineers visited the Cambridge museum
with a colleague. I gather they took away various ideas about how to
exhibit items to document the computer era. Their catchy slogan about
putting a chair in front of the exhibits (rather than glass) was/is equally
true of the approach at Cambridge.

Regards

Jon
