Hi Craig,

No joy on that one, I'm afraid.  I was also looking around at paper tape 
readers & punches, but prices for those seem to be well outside my 
budget too, even ones that don't work.  So I thought, since I don't 
actually need real paper tape, I would just make a simulator with a 
parallel connection on one side and an RS232 connection on the other.  
The serial port would connect to a PC and the parallel to the SBC CPU.  
In between would be a microcontroller with enough pins to run the 
parallel connection (or I could get really crazy and try using an 
FPGA).  It would be a form of parallel to serial converter.  I haven't 
gotten much beyond locating a copy of the Remex manual and thinking 
about it though.  I saw that the manual talked about both synchronous 
and asynchronous operation.  It seems like full handshaking, 
reading/writing one byte at a time and monitoring status signals, would 
be the preferred method.
